Best practices
Best practicesHow can one find about best information society practices and how can the information society be prevented from re-inventing the wheel again and again? And, how can public awareness of applied information society practices be improved?
The best information society practices in Finland available for allFinland has achieved significant results in the development of applications and practices that rely on information and communications technologies, and the number of information society projects in Finland is considerable. However, there are practical problems in increasing the familiarity of the practices and in branding and marketing the aforementioned results. Then, how does one define a good or best information society practice? Well, in brief, a good information society practice is a project, action, device or service that improves human well-being and quality of life through effective use of information and communications technologies. A best practice can also be an endeavour to promote a process or service within an organisation. These Internet pages, which are part of the Government Information Society Programme, will assemble information on best information society practices throughout Finland. By so doing, the objective is to expand public awareness of the best practices that are in use, encourage their wider application and promote the introduction of new practices. The attainment of the objective will be helped by a Best Practices Award to be presented by the Prime Minister. First time these awards where presented in november 2004. Next time the award is presented in 2006. With the introduction of these pages, we invite the builders of Finland's information society to make their best practices known. Information regarding best practices can be submitted either in Finnish or Swedish. Any English-speaking participants are kindly requested to contact directly the Office of the Information Society Programme.
