Information Society Programme
The Information Society Programme is one of the Government's four intersectoral policy programmes. The Information Society Programme is led by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. His work is supported by a ministerial group which consists of Seppo Kääriäinen, Minister of Defence, Susanna Huovinen, Minister of Transport and Communications, Antti Kalliomäki, Minister of Education, and Ulla-Maj Wideroos, Coordinate Minister for Finance. The ministerial group defines the priorities for the programme and monitors its implementation. Administrative decisions relating to the policy programmes are made by the Government in accordance with agreed procedures and with the help of existing organisations.

Katrina Harjuhahto-Madetoja, Programme Director, is responsible for the operational management of the programme. Her work is supported by the staff of the Office of the Information Society Programme. The Government ministries are responsible for the related projects and their work is coordinated by the Programme Management Steering Group which also acts as the programme’s operational management group. In addition to the ministries, the Programme Management Steering Group also includes representatives from the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities.

Information Society Council
The Information Society Council is also chaired by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. Seven sections, entitled according to the sections of the Information Society Programme, work under the Information Society Council. The members of the Information Society Council and sections represent various sectors of the society and, consequently, provide a wide perspective to the development of the Information Society and implementation of the Information Society Programme.

Programme management
The agreement on the implementation of four intesectoral policy programme is laid down in the Government Programme. The policy programmes cover the priorities of the Government’s work and the aim is to improve the utilisation of existing resources through intersectoral measures. The other three prgrammes are the Employment Policy Programme, Entrepreneurship Policy Programme and Civil Participation Policy Programme.
